I hope you had a great week, and a nice vacation! Here at Chabad we had an awesome Chanukah, lighting our giant ice Menorah at Chanukah on Ice at Playland, enjoying our Chanukah celebration at the Chase park Menorah lighting and more.

I think the Menorah serves as a great inspiration for a time like January, when many are starting fresh pages and getting back to work.

How so?

The Menorah is lit with oil (candles are great too!). Oil has an interesting property. It has the power to light up a room - but not alone. It needs a wick to do the job. It also has the power to greatly enhance the taste of many foods - but who eats oil on its own?

Our work and daily grinds can seem overwhelming sometimes. 'If only I had more free time and less financial worries I'd be able to devote more time to Torah and Mitzvot' you might say.

In truth however, those financial worries can actually serve as the 'wick' for the 'oil' of Judaism. Life is very meaningful when we have an inspired inner purpose on the one hand - the oil -  blended with a busy business life - the wick. Raw inspiration cannot exist alone. It needs something to inspire.
